Congratulations to our $50,000 Premier Scholarship Winner!

Congratulations to Dane Gannon of Plainview, who was awarded Jovia's 2022 Premier Scholarship. Dane will receive a $50,000 scholarship for his academic accomplishments and service to our community.
Dane, a recent graduate of Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School, will be attending the University of Delaware with a focus on finance. (We love that!) Best of luck to you, Dane!

Jovia Financial Credit Union & the Long Island Nets have partnered with select Target locations to help local students in need. We are collecting school supplies to support underserved elementary schools and communities across Long Island. This initiative will help to prepare students for their academic studies, build their self-esteem, and set them up for success this school year.

Supplies Needed:
Backpacks, lunch boxes, notebooks, pencils, crayons and scissors, and other standard
elementary-aged school supplies.
|
|
|
|
Beginning August 26th and running through September 23rd, select Jovia branches will serve as collection sites where members can drop off school supplies.
|
|
Jovia’s partnership with the Long Island Nets will also include :
- Financial literacy education workshops for middle school students conducted in specific schools in Nassau & Suffolk County
- A series of “Team Up for Unity” Days dedicated to addressing racism and bias in High School sports on Long Island and educating youth and faculty on how to recognize and effectively navigate these situations
- Hosting a Long Island Nets & Jovia “Education Day” game for local schools that will integrate STEM education and learning into the game experience

Splish Splash and Jovia co-host a carefree day of fun in the sun
|
|
|
|
Splish Splash and Jovia Financial Credit Union co-hosted a carefree day of sun and water park fun for underserved and health-challenged Long Island families. 100 children, parents, and caregivers were given free admission to the water park on August 16, 2022. In addition, each event attendee was provided a voucher to purchase food and drinks within the park.

Jovia Supports the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (LICH) Backpack Pirates Event

This summer, Jovia's Community Involvement Committee team members volunteered to help create a memorable experience for Long Island's homeless and at-risk youth and assisted them in getting ready for a new school year in September!
On August 6th, we joined LICH at their headquarters in Amityville, NY, to sort school supplies and fill backpacks.
|
|
|
Jovia team members also volunteered as camp counselors, athletes, artists, timekeepers, and teammates to over 425 homeless and at-risk children at the LICH Backpack Pirates Festival, a summer camp event packed with fun and activities.
Each child ended the day receiving many of the supplies they will need to start the new school year.
|
|
|
About the Annual Program
The Backpack Pirates Festival is a pirate-themed summer camp event for homeless children and children in foster care programs on Long Island. The Long Island Coalition for the Homeless provides a full day of recreational and educational activities at the summer camp for almost 500 children. Over the years, activities have expanded to include face painting, beach time, arts & crafts, a treasure hunt, various sports, and sprinkler time.
Each child receives breakfast, lunch, healthy snacks and drinks, new, age-appropriate backpacks filled with school supplies, bathing suits and towels, and new back-to-school clothing.
